Economic Empowerment Workshop

Representative Perry Thurston sponsored an Economic Empowerment Workshop on Saturday, December 6, 2008, at Carter Park.  The event was slated to provide the community, at large, with an opportunity to address concerns about conducting business with local governments and state agencies.  Over 100 business owners attended the interactive question and answer workshop.  As such, many attendees received answers to questions that have plagued them regarding participation in many programs.  Specifically, the “no bid” service contracts available through the School Board and the city of Fort Lauderdale along with requests to reduce the bid amounts in order to facilitate the financial constraints of small businesses.  In order to maintain a continuous dialogue on this issue, we will provide e-mail updates regarding any legislative news and will follow up with another workshop in 9-12 months.
