Representative Perry Thurston sponsored the Second Annual Economic Empowerment Workshop on
Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Strayer University.  The event provided the small business community an opportunity to address concerns about conducting business with local governments, and state agencies.  The venue was full to capacity with small businesses engaging in active exchanges with the participating organizations.  As such, many attendees received answers to questions that have plagued them over the years.  Specific information regarding programs that have sprung out of the new federal economic stimulus plan was provided.  The Florida Department of Transportation, a principal recipient of the program’s funding, was one of the primary participants.  The District Secretary, James Wolfe, explained in detail the functions of each department present and enlisted feedback from the attendees.  In order to maintain a continuous dialogue on this issue, we will provide e-mail updates and will follow up with another workshop in 9-12 months.
