The 2nd Annual Thurston AAA Invitational Baseball Tournament

The 2nd Annual Thurston AAA Invitational Baseball Tournament for boys ages 9-10 and 11-12 got off to a great start with its Kick-Off event, Friday April 9th.  We were privileged to have Dr. J. Arenas-Chico as our keynote speaker, David Miller, Recreations Superintendent representing the City of Fort Lauderdale, Lisa Mays, Principal of Walker Elementary, and representatives from key tournament sponsors, Gary Farmer and Brad Edwards, partners of Farmer, Jaffe, Weissing, Edwards, Fistos and Lehrman, P.L., and Duple Travillion of FedEx Corporation.  Since the focus of the tournament is to support youth sports, the youth theme was carried throughout.  The entertainment consisted of the locally renowned Walker Elementary School band and the Lauderdale Manors Eagles Cheerleading Squad.  Each provided a customized routine, specifically choreographed for the event.  The teams, Delray Beach, (two teams 9-10 & 11-12), South Kendall Rays, (11-12), Black Sox, (9-10), City of Opa-Locka ,(11-12), Pompano Beach, (11-12) and the Carter Park Kings, (two teams 9-10 & 11-12), were in attendance along with an array of family and friends from the community.  The tournament is double elimination, in which the teams play until they lose two games.  In the three day tournament, the Black Sox were victorious in the 9-10 year old bracket.  Due to inclement weather, team Pompano Beach was awarded the winner of the 11-12 year olds because of their total wins.
